Clark Lake Wildlife

A wide variety of animals, fish, and birds are found in the waters and on the shores of Clark Lake.  The Minnesota DNR lists 14 species of fish that inhabit the lake, plus there are semi-aquatic mammals such as otter, beaver, muskrat, and lemmings. Animals found in the surrounding area may include deer, black bear, wolves, coyotes,  bobcat, squirrels, etc.

A wide range of waterfowl also visit the lake. The casual observer may see Great Blue Herons, Common Loons, Canadian Geese, various species of duck, Bald-Headed Eagles, Ospreys, and Trumpeter, Tundra, and Mute Swans. Plus many other woodland species.

There are volunteers that manage the loon's nests.  They are located on the north end and near the Rice Lake inlet.  These nests are monitored by many members.  Please give these nests a wide berth and do not disturb nesting loons.

We had a representative from the National Loon Center speak at a membership meeting in 2025.  It was very informative.  To find out more information on Minnesota Loons - visit the National Loon Center in Cross Lake.
